• Brief history of BBFC: It's a non-governmental organization, founded by the film industry in 1912 and responsible for the national classification and censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and video works (such as television programmes, trailers, adverts, public Information/campaigning films, menus, bonus content etc.) released on physical media within the United Kingdom. It has a statutory requirement to classify videos, DVDs and, to a lesser extent, some video games under the Video Recordings Act 2010

• Key company case study: The age ratings go in the order of U, PG, 3, 7, 12/12A, 15 and 18. I agree with each of the age ratings but from to time, some films are often too young for the specified age rating. This can because they might be overly violent.

• Our film would be rated 18 and over because of the amount of jump scares and horror which I advise not to be shown to anyone of a younger age than the one certified.

• My opinion of the age rating system: I think the age ratings system is very good because it stops younger people from seeing inappropriate things such as nudity and extreme violence. Having age verification may influence children's lives. It may also influence peoples lives such as  children seeing death and murder. This may make them think it's okay to do or haunt them so they become obsessed.

Art of the Title textual analysis

Hey everybody
This is my textual analysis of the opening for Captain America Civil war.
The opening begins with a star symbol with the director's names in a bold white font. This is very typical of a Captain America film and very recognisable as you can see.
The star symbol is also very recognisable as it is on the American flag and Captain America has a big one on his shield and chest which he has had since WW2 and Captain America has had multiple suits which all feature the symbol. The director is first as he is the biggest part of producing the film.

Next we see the screen writers coming off part of the star also in the same style as the directors. This shows they are of great importance to the film. Screenwriters have to produce highly creative writing, to strict deadlines. They work with a script development team to create a finished product that is likely to be financed and made. Sometimes producers bring in an additional screenwriter to improve certain aspects of the screenplay.
The writing in general looks really different than most films but is often used by Marvel especially with the fading and shadow effects. This gives it a very sleek look. It is a great opening.

Directors and their techniques

The director I'm going to look at is Christopher Nolan. Nolan has a very different way of presenting a movie. "He messes with your memory, his movies are edited in such a way that keeps the audience on their toes all the time". Sometimes so much that it becomes difficult to understand the movie completely if you miss the first five minutes. Extremely innovative photography and editing and more importantly a non linear sequence, except for the movie Insomnia.


Most of the endings of his movies generate a lot of debates. The most recent and famous being, "Was the movie Inception in real space or dream space?" And there are a lot of details worth discussing, there was no dialogue between the characters after the planes landing or when Cobb came out of limbo, the kids were wearing the same clothes, similar posture and never aged both in his imagination and the so-called reality in the end. and of course, the spinning top never fell, just wobbled. One devil he is. he film's script concludes with "Behind him, on the table, the spinning top is STILL SPINNING. And we – FADE OUT".


Almost every Nolan movie starts with a scene, which plays a key role in the movie later, and grabs the audience attention immediately. It can be the bank robbery scene in The Dark Knight, the plane hijack in The Dark Knight Rises, or the ocean scene in Inception. Nolan doesn't believe in slowly introducing the movie, it comes with a bang and makes you sit upright in your chair.

Sexuality in tv shows

This time I'm going to analyse a character from one of my favourite TV shows, The Big Bang Theory.
The character I am going to analyse is Howard. Howard likes to think of himself as a ladies man, he thinks he's absolutely amazing. When in reality he is creepy and nerdy but he is funny in his attempts to get in to relationships. For example, in one episode he dresses up as gothic person...

Howard is a heterosexual male.
This is two shot of him and Raj (His best friend). As you can see, he is wearing fake tattoos and black clothes. This implies he is trying very hard to get a random girl who often hangs out in this kind of place. As you can see in the backdrop, it is dark but has lights around the bar. This implies heterosexual people will try anything to get a member of the opposite sex. Before he got married, he was often mocked for failing to get a girlfriend.


Incorporating sexuality may not be needed because our current idea doesn't involve sexual tokenistic values.

This vlog is for the Misfits case study, showcasing the representation of old age. Old age is often lonely and full of hardship. Ruth's mise-en-scene helps show she is really an old woman and not young as she appears.


This case study will help me better understand how age has a big impact and how it can influence films. For example, if I decided to make a character who was old, I would have to decide how they would fit in to the world I have created. Misfits has also taught me that other things such as sound can be used to show age. Early on in the episode, more up beat music is used during a scene. This is when Ruth is younger but later on in the episode, "You're beautiful" is used when she is old. The song is 12 years old now. As a young woman, Ruth is quite pretty. But as an old woman, she is frail and has wrinkles. They also use a wide camera shot when she is old to show how old she really is and to show what she is using. For example, she is using a walking frame to walk which shows old age makes people week and need support.

Preliminary task

Our preliminary task is to create a short thriller. It will involve at least 2 characters who interact.
For our task, we decided to make a Noir style detective film. I play a contact who has information which I give to Jaden who is a detective.
Alex films and edits the final piece and Jaden found the sound effects.

I am really excited to be studying media in 6th form. It should be an awesome subject.

I am looking forward to making films as I love watching them, so why not make them.
The film I am currently helping to make will be roughly 2 and a half minutes long!

I really hope everyone enjoys watching them as much as I love making them! This should be very interesting.
